A Paypal Nightmare. I want to wake up!

It’s nothing new, things go wrong for me ALL the time. Some of it is my fault, some if it is completely out of my control. Here’s the thing though, when I am GUARANTEED that a bogus authorized charge will drop off, from a supervisor no less, at the Paypal resolution center, I want it to drop off. But no, I’m charged a ridiculous 129.95 from Video Professor for a trial I ordered on 5/15/2008 that I ordered, that I never even got! Besides that terrible fact, what product of theirs costs 129.95? I don’t think the learn Access trial I ordered was even that much. Terrible stuff.

Now to get on more into the nightmare. I used a generated one time secure use card for the trial. Let’s take a look at the preceding statement carefully, “one time use.” Important distinction right there. So how on earth did Video Professor charge my Paypal account 129.95 via a one-time use card, the only billing information that they ever got from me? I have no clue, and no body at Paypal seemed to have one either. It wasn’t something they were familiar with. Some body else had the knowledge to how the technical aspects of things worked. Sometimes you see a card associated with a charge sometimes you don’t. I’m sorry I deal with other aspects of peoples accounts. OH BY THE WAY, these are all responses that I got to my inquiries.

Now don’t get me wrong, every single Paypal employee I dealt with happened to be pleasant, helpful, and extremely professional. In fact they seemed quite upset they couldn’t tell me what I wanted to know. This was a lot more encouraging then the other nightmare stories that I’ve come across. It just didn’t help me get my money back. So after going through the standard rigamorale I was told to eventually do what I had alredy done. Which was to fill out the dispute form affidavit. Here’s the great twist though, you can fax it in! Now the number is not there with the affidavit, I got this information from the nice third person I was talking to, a pleasant rep named Rachel. She sent it in an email that included a link to download the form. This will speed up the resolution by at least 3 days, so I’m happy about that.

What I’m not happy with is the zero balance in my account, and the trouble I’m going to have to deal with for my checking account when Paypal tries to pull out 85 bucks to cover what wasn’t in my Paypal balance at the time. In fact I was even told by the resolution supervisor to go ahead and DISPUTE THAT charge with my bank as well as unauthorized. Do you guys see how funny that is? Being told by Paypal to dispute their own charge as unauthorized? I at least thought so.

So that’s my nightmare for the week basically, hopefully it will all be straightened out within 10 business days. The last time I had a dispute it was. However all of you freebie traders out there, be warned about Video Professor. Even if you don’t receive your trial at all in the mail, even if you have a few days left in it, make doubly, no triply sure that you stay on top of them. If you don’t receive it, call them and cancel right away or you might end up in a similar mess as me.

  1. I have been weary of Video Professor for just this reason. I didn’t like the way they state things in their TOS. I was totally afraid that I would end up getting charged that stupid amount even if I canceled, or actually before I even received the product. The trial was like 10 days and it starts right when you sign up and I thought there was no way they would deliver the product in enough time for me to actually try it out before they charged me. I am glad I have stayed away from this offer. I hope you get your money back.

  2. UPDATE!!! I’ve received temporary credit from Paypal until further investigation commences, however that won’t matter as I’ve contacted Video Professor and they issued me a refund and marked the product I never got as sent back to them. So by July 4th I should have it refunded back to my Paypal, way before the 35 days of temp credit runs out. Whew, missed biting one there, huh?
