Just Another Day

I didn’t do that much today. My wife and I slept a whole lot. Got plenty of rest. We went out to eat breakfast at a place near our home and then came back. We had such grand plans for the day, however we didn’t do any of them. Unless you count laundry as a major accomplishment.

What I did find interesting today was the validation of one of my previous ideas. I was visiting peoples blogs by way of blog to blog connecting and came to “Super Affiliate” Zac Johnson’s blog. What I learned there was interesting. Quite a few years ago, before I ever considered trying to make money online, I thought that providing resources for social networking sites on a website could make you good money. I mean I always was hunting for Myspace themes and codes back then, and I’m sure millions of others were as well.

Well Zac did just that. He created a website/websites (didn’t specify) that provided free codes and layouts for Myspace. He got so much traffic and was using so much bandwidth he ended up getting 17 of his own servers from Dell and hosting it all himself. His bandwidth costs at the time before that were running $12,000 dollars a month. Now keep in mind, he was spending that much on his hosting, yet was still making much more than that. He was also making this amount of money with only a few different advertising techniques. He states that at one point he was getting 100,000 unique visitors a day! Wow, I’d love to have 100 unique visitors a day.

So there’s more statistics to this story, but they’re not relevant right now. What matters is this; I had that idea about 5/6 years ago. It went fluttering in my thoughts, I didn’t realize that it could make a whole lot of money, but I did think that it would be somewhat profitable. I really missed out didn’t I? The funny thing is, I don’t think it’s too late to implement the idea. There’s still a large need for social networking resources like that. There are people of all age ranges, albeit mostly adolescents that love the widgets and whatnot, that are hunting for this stuff on a daily basis. You just have to make your site popular. I think maybe in the near future I’ll try it as an experiment. Couldn’t really hurt that much just to try.

Also there’s a lesson learned here for me. You shouldn’t disregard ideas and inspirations you have without testing them out. If you think of something that may be great, and its original or at least is a new twist on something old. You should just go ahead and do it. You never know if it’ll be your ticket to the big bucks.
